Phoenix Energy Audit – The Results Are In!

So as I mentioned on a the HVAC Talk Page of HVAC Repair Phoenix,  I talked about the Phoenix Energy Audit I had done and the repair work that resulted from it in an effort to cut down on energy costs.  A great deal of work done to help improve the energy efficiency of my home.  That work included adding some insulation to the attic, sealing and blowing out air ducts, putting in a new blower unit to match the energy efficiency of the compressor, addition of a new register in one of the bedrooms…plus a couple of other things.

Phoenix energy efficiency savingsWell, it’s been over a month and now it’s time to report on the results.

ARE YOU READY!!!  (Sorry, I’m just a little excited…well, and nervous too!  :0))

So, the temperature has been changed first off.  The temperature was set at a somewhat miserable yet bearable 82 degrees.  Now, of course I don’t want to look a gift horse in the mouth.  That temperature is better that being outside in the Phoenix heat under the Arizona sun.  However, compare it to what our setting is now and…let’s just say the comparison was like going from a warm over into the freezer.

Currently we are sitting at a very comfortable 78 degrees… and I do mean VERY COMFORTABLE.  The air is blowing and the funny thing is that it could actually be heard blowing through vents.  In fact, I had to stop for a moment when I first heard it to figure out what the noise was.  🙂  (I admit I had to laugh at that.)

And it is cool air.   There is a noticeable difference over the last month and even the dogs are noticing the difference because they don’t pant like they use to.

Now admittedly, the next test was a little scary, but it was time to see the energy bill and find out what the differences were.  While opening that bill created a little nervousness and tension, finally seeing it brought a HUGE smile to my face.

The kilowatt hours over the course of the month were actually down compared to last year.  (Just to clear up any questions, I couldn’t compare the bill to last month because the outside temperatures were vastly different…like 85 degrees last month in comparison to 95 degrees this month.)  However, my bill does show last year’s numbers and that is how I know that the Phoenix energy audit made a HUGE positive impact.

As mentioned above, this month the temperature outside was 95 degrees.  Last year the temperature was 2 degrees warmer.  That difference is minimal.  However for those who may still be skeptical or need a little more convincing, there were 28 days in the billing cycle this year and 30 in the cycle last year.  2,339 kWH were used this month and 3,126 kWH were used this month last year.  That’s a difference of 83.53 kWH per day this month as compared to 104.2 kWH per day this month last year.  Even if you added in two extra days into this month’s bill based on the daily kWH amount from last year…the totals are still lower.

Now, while these numbers might not prove everything out 100% that the Phoenix energy audit and subsequent HVAC repairs to improve home energy efficiency, saves me money on air conditioning and electric costs, that do confirm one thing.  I’m not paying more in cooling costs and yet I am much more comfortable in my home.  I mean seriously, 82 down to 78 degrees.  I’m not sweating indoors anymore.

And based on that, I don’t think anyone can argue the energy savings with that.  And because of these results, I don’t think anyone can argue the value of a home energy assessment either.

So while it’s still hot as Hades outside, take advantage of a Phoenix energy audit on your home to lower your heating and cooling costs and save some money.
